Fender Basses - An Important History
The well known Fender mark brought the public the very first mass-produced bass guitar in the 50's. From the very start, Fender's electric bass guitar became popular among many professionals, especially when bassists Roy Johnson and William 'Monk' Montgomery along with band leader and visionary musician, Lionel Hampton, along with his talented bass players, are what greatly helped make Fender electric bass guitar popular and respected among musicians. Within a bit of the Precision Bass being released by Fender, another electric bass guitar was brought forward by Gibson. This new bass guitar looked more of a violin than the Fender bass. By this point, electric instruments were here to stay and play a vital role in the musical industry as we now know it.
Fender's bass guitar, over the years, has only been modified a fragment, mostly staying true to its original composition. The original electric bass guitar models made by Leo Fender in the 1950's were such fine instruments that they have become classics. Today, those original models, as well as those from the next couple of decades, are greatly desired by musicians. Fender undertook changes with some models that were altered from that basic model, and reviews were unfavorable. This experimenting proved that Fender hit the nail on the head with the original blueprint.
Despite the big conflict about which makes a better bass guitar, you can now find bass guitars in many shapes and materials. Which one you want to get depends on your sensibilities. Ebony and alder are exotic woods, but alternative materials along with graphite are rapidly becoming the more popular materials to use for bass bodies. With each material comes a auditory sensation specific to the guitar as well as a particular tonal quality. To find the preferred material, you may want to experiment with some different types. You can even decide if you desire frets on your neck. The presence or absence of frets is another factor that modifies the sound since the strings will be vibrating on a metal fret or a wood neck.
Whether you choose wood, graphite, frets, or no frets, bass playing is a fun and crucial element in music that completes the full sound.
