It's a dandy guitar to learn on - most of us didn't have anything nearly that good to start out with, you should thank your Dad a lot and appreciate what he got for you.
Now that said - you want to make sure it is "set up" properly - basically that the neck is adjusted correctly, the string height is set correctly so it's not too hard to press down the strings. It may be absolutely fine out of the box - but then again it might not be, and a poor set-up is the #1 reason new students quit. So have a music dealer (or a friend who plays a lot of guitar) check it out and make sure it's good to go.
